বাঙালি বিয়ের কার্ড (The Bengali Wedding Card)!
Did you know that Butterfly as a motif is present in almost all aspects of a Hindu Bengali wedding, because they symbolize marriage. The reason is traced back to Brahma , who is also known as the avatar of Prajapati, the Lord of Progeny. Incidentally, in Bengali language, the butterfly is called “Prajapati”.
This pretty piece was done on seed paper in collaboration with the wonderful Shaadi Ityaadi and the incredible Doodlebar.In.
The design talks in doodle-tongue about the variety of rituals that are characteristic of a Bengali wedding.
Shubo Drishti (sacred sight)
Mala Bodol (garland exchange)
Kanya Sampradan (Giving the Bride away)
Sindoor Daan (The vermilion ritual)
Joggo (or Edibles, an offering of food to the fire gods)
Bou- Bhaat (like a reception and meeting the newly weds)
